This course will provide an overview of theories in the field of personality psychology. Representative theorists of psychoanalytic, neo-psychoanalytic, life-span, genetics, humanistic, cognitive, behavioral and social-learning approaches will be introduced. Students will learn about each theory’s essential concepts, assumptions, methods of assessment and empirical research. Evaluations and reflections of each theory’s strengths and weakness will also be discussed. At the end, students should get a sense of the various approaches to personality psychology as different perspectives integrated into a larger story about the structure, dynamics and sources of personality.
